Philanthropy Day

Each year, on November 15 AFP International sets aside a day to recognize those who are making a difference in the world of philanthropy. Most local chapters of AFP celebrate sometime this month by recognizing local philanthropists, volunteers and professionals in the field.

If your local AFP chapter has a philanthropy day celebration, this is a great opportunity to celebrate the concept of philanthropy and recognize your organization's donors. Consider hosting a table and
taking board members, staff and volunteers to your local Philanthropy Day celebration. It will inspire them to do even greater things for your organization. And, if you haven’t already done so, you should consider nominating one of your own donors, volunteers or peers for an award at the local or national level.

I personally have been honored to have been voted the Outstanding Fundraising Executive of the Year by two chapters—The Eastern PA Chapter in 2001 and the Las Vegas Chapter in 2004 and, two years ago, was honored to receive the first Barbara Marion Award for Outstanding Service to AFP. This meant a lot to me; being recognized by your peers is a wonderful feeling.

Since this is the month of Thanksgiving in the United Sates, Philanthropy Day gives us a good reason to celebrate our donors and volunteers.
Some Hints for Celebrating Philanthropy:
  1. Sponsor a table at your local National Philanthropy Day celebration.
  2. Send donors a Philanthropy Day or Thanksgiving card.
  3. Thank your staff by treating them to lunch.
  4. Have your board conduct a “Thank-A-Thon" on Philanthropy Day.
  5. Visit one or two donors on Philanthropy Day just to thank them for their support.

To celebrate our fifteenth year in business, CAPITAL VENTURE, in conjunction with Sand and Associates, is offering a new program! We are really excited about this opportunity to offer our services to the smaller shops that don't need or cannot afford a consultant to work in a regular basis to help them with their fundraising, governance, planning and management issues. By now you have probably received an announcement about this service. If not, contact info@cvfundraising.com and ask for information on Consultants on Call. This service provides unlimited consultation by phone and email for a period of three months to a limited number of nonprofits.
Training and Professional Development

We offer a wide variety of workshops for groups such as AFP chapters, statewide associations, national organizations, Dioceses, United Ways and Centers for Nonprofits.
