We all know the importance of saying thank you, but when it comes to donors, what would happen if we abided by what our parents taught us in kindergarten, "You can't use the gift until you say 'thank you.' " We couldn't wear the sweater from Aunt Mildred until we sent the thank you note. We couldn't play the new computer game until we called Grandpa and thanked him. If nonprofits followed this lesson, we're convinced donors would be thanked and acknowledged more frequently, faster and better. We couldn't start that new program until we thanked the foundation that funded our proposal, we couldn't build that new building until we knew that every donor felt appreciated, we couldn't pay staff salaries until we said thank you to every direct mail donor.  Read more
